01

Study Light

I designed an interactive study light inspired by the Pomodoro Technique to help students stay focused while studying.

Design

The light features two modes: one button functions as a traditional lamp, cycling through different colours, while the second activates a guided study timer with 30-minute focus sessions followed by 5-minute breaks (Pomodoro Technique). At the end of each focus session, an audio cue sounds and the light transitions from white to a cool blue, signaling the start of the break.

Goal

As my second electronics project, my goal was to challenge myself and continue developing my soldering and coding skills. I also explored using AI as a coding tool to help program the product to perform as intended. Ultimately, I wanted to create a physical product with two purposes: an everyday light and an interactive tool that helps students structure their study sessions.

Testing light and sound

Prototype

I'm especially passionate about technology-integrated product design because I love exploring how electronics can enhance the way a product functions and how people interact with it. Learning about coding, soldering, and electronics has completely changed the way I approach design. I enjoy understanding how a product works from the inside out, then designing its physical form around components like lights, speakers, and circuitry. Being able to combine technology with thoughtful product design to create something functional and meaningful is what excites me most.

02

Mini Pinball Game

I designed and built a fully functional mini pinball game.

Design

This project combines electronics, coding, and product design into one compact, interactive product. The game features a digital display and physical controls housed within a custom 3D-printed enclosure.

Goal

As my first electronics project, my goal was to learn the fundamentals of soldering and coding while understanding how electronic components could be integrated into a physical product. Through prototyping, I also explored how enclosure design and tolerances affect the fit and function of internal components.

The Brand

Based in Calgary, Alberta, Rocky Mountain Dog designs durable adventure gear for dogs. Inspired by the Canadian outdoors, each product is built for everyday walks, mountain trails, and adventures.

TWO PRODUCTS. ONE GOAL. ✦
Better adventures with your dog.

01

Mountaineer Dog Backpack

Design

Features a unique two-in-one design: a harness and an attachable backpack

Goal

The goal was to design a durable, water-resistant dog backpack that allows dogs to comfortably carry a variety of products. Allowing the owners to walk hands-free.

The design can be a standalone harness or an attachable backpack to hold many things.

Multiple Sizes ✦ Easily Detachable ✦ Comfortable ✦ Lot’s of Pockets ✦ Fashionable

The product launched on Kickstarter and exceeded its $5,000 funding goal!

This was designed for three reasons:

  1. There are not many dog backpacks that are multi-designed with a harness and an attachable saddlebag pack to hold all of you and your dogs items.

  2. Dog owners can pack this multi-pocket saddlebag full of all their desired hiking and camping essentials and be able to walk hands-free.

  3. Dog owners need a backpack that they are able to pack full of items and not have to carry! This was designed to make packing for long hikes or camping trips super easy!

Design Process

The first design was just to create a dog harness, and then the team took it one step further by adding a backpack that could attach to the harness. Several iterations were needed to determine the best way the backpack would attach, after many prototypes the team landed on a buckle because it was easy for the owner to use and easy to adjust the sizing.

Additionally, through iterations, we chose a more water-resistant material, added more pockets, and adjusted colour and finish.

02

Aspen Belt Bag

Design

A hands-free design created specifically for dog owners, with dedicated storage for walking and adventure essentials.

Goal

The goal was to create a compact belt bag with dedicated storage for a water bottle, treats, waste bags, phone and keys.

Designed for everyday walks, hikes and adventures without the bulk of a traditional backpack.

Multiple Pockets ✦ Water Bottle Holder ✦ Hands-Free ✦ Water-Resistant ✦ Adjustable

The product launched on Kickstarter and exceeded its $10,000 funding goal!

This was designed for three reasons:

  1. Customers wanted a belt bag that could carry both a water bottle and everyday walking essentials.

  2. Dog owners needed a smaller alternative to a backpack for everyday walks and shorter hikes.

  3. Traditional belt bags weren’t designed around the specific needs of dog owners.

Design Process

The first prototype established the overall bag design, but customer feedback identified the water bottle holder as an essential feature. The team added dedicated bottle storage, reinforced the base and selected a more water-resistant material.

Further iterations reduced the overall pouch size and shortened the bottle pocket to sit flush with the base, creating a more compact and balanced final design.

Developed product specifications, dimensions and design details for communication with manufacturers.

Problem

THE JUNK DRAWER PROBLEM ✦

We all have that one drawer.

Cords, chargers and random items quickly become tangled together, making it difficult to find the right cable — or the charging block that goes with it.

PlugPal was designed to give cords and chargers a dedicated place within the drawer, keeping everything organized, paired and easy to access.

A PLACE FOR EVERY PLUG. ✦

PlugPal is an in-drawer cord and charger organizer designed to keep charging essentials together. Cords sit neatly within individual slots, while their corresponding charging blocks plug directly into the wooden base beside them.

Organized Cords ✦ Charger Storage ✦ Compact ✦ Drawer-Friendly

Plug it. Store it . Find it.

  1. Place cords into the individual slots.

  2. Plug the corresponding charging blocks into the wooden base.

  3. Store PlugPal directly inside your drawer.

THE JUNK DRAWER PROBLEM

We’ve all had a drawer that looks like this.

Solution

STORE CORDS + PLUG IN BLOCKS

Place each cord into a slot to keep it organized and tangle-free. Plug its charging block into the wooden base beside it.

STAY ORGANIZED

Everything has its place, so what you need is easy to find.

The base was constructed from plywood and finished in black, creating a durable structure for storing charging blocks.

Laser-cut acrylic dividers separate each cord, while a sandblasted finish reduces visual clutter by partially obscuring the cables within.

Design

The design incorporates butterfly motifs in both form and colour. The legs are shaped to resemble the outline of butterfly wings and extend outward at a 45-degree angle, mirroring their natural wing position. A vibrant pop of orange appears on the inner surfaces of the legs, revealing a burst of colour inspired by monarch butterflies taking flight. The chosen colour palette aligns with the bold patterns of their wings. The overall form of the table embraces an organic feel.
